Dear sponsor,

My name is Kamila, and I am three years old. I live with my mom in a town. My mom doesn’t work. I have a sister and four brothers. They are all very interesting. What I like about them is that they love and care for my mom and me. My friend is my elder sister. We draw and make things from modelling clay together. In the summer holidays, I go to the river and play a lot. I attend daycare. I walk there with my mom and brother. I like daycare and spend the whole day there. It’s interesting there and you can learn a lot of new things. There we play, draw, and make things from modelling clay. Making things from modelling clay is my favourite thing to do. As for food, I like pelmeni (meat dumplings), varenyky, meat, and potatoes. At home, I usually eat borscht, potatoes, and potato pancakes. On holidays, my mom always makes a cake, holubtsi (cabbage rolls), salads, etc. When I grow up, I want to be a nurse like my mom. Thank you so much, dear sponsor, for wanting to help me. I’d love to get to know you.

Caseworker’s Comments:

Kamila, the youngest in the family, receives abundant attention due to her tender age. Despite her demanding nature, her persistence in pursuing her goals earns admiration. Everyone gladly indulges her and embraces her imaginative ideas. Kamila finds joy in playing with dolls, meticulously naming them and caring for her cherished toys. Her affection extends to animals, particularly cats and dogs, whom she treats with kindness. In addition to her love for storytelling and spending time with her siblings, Kamila diligently fulfills her chores, finding delight in tidying up her toys. Her favourite pastime is the exhilarating game of tag.

However, Kamila’s family faces formidable challenges. Raised solely by her mother, Mariana, as their father is absent, they grapple with financial poverty. Mariana, unemployed and reliant on meagre monthly governmental aid of only 4200 UAH (which is roughly only 145.00 CAD a month), struggles to sustain their family of seven in their modest two-room rented apartment. Their apartment lacks proper furniture and is only heated through firewood.

Their dire circumstances demand urgent assistance. With six children to feed and clothe, alongside expenses for utilities, school essentials, and daycare, their meagre resources are stretched thin. Despite their financial plight, the family remains united, supporting one another through their trials. The children, obedient and caring, assist each other, with older siblings nurturing the younger ones and helping in their studies.

Though impoverished, they make the most of their situation, displaying resilience and humility. Their frugality extends to every aspect of life, from sharing a single room in winter to economizing on groceries and clothing. Mariana, overwhelmed by the daunting task of providing for her children, considers even begging for financial aid near the church. Kamila and her family’s plight underscores the urgent need for support. In their hour of desperation, your assistance could provide a lifeline, offering hope and relief to a family struggling to survive.
