Dear sponsor,

Hi! My name is Kira and I’m 8 years old. I live in a town. My mom doesn’t have a job right now, but she takes good care of me. My best friend is Daryna—she lives really close to me, and we play together a lot! I love playing Roblox, it’s my favorite game! At Christmas, I get super excited about presents. In the summer, I like going to the river to play and splash around.

I’m in 2nd grade and my mom takes me to school. My classes finish at 4:20 in the afternoon. My favorite subject is Math because I like numbers! I don’t really like English, but I try my best. At school, I like reading, writing, writing poems, and singing songs. I eat all kinds of food! At home, I usually have soup, meat, porridge, sandwiches, and tea. Yummy! In my free time, I like playing on the phone with my friends and playing hide and seek. When I grow up, I want to be a teacher so I can help kids learn. Thank you for reading my letter! I hope to hear from you soon!

Love,

Kira

Caseworker’s comments:

Kira is a bright, creative, and energetic 8-year-old girl who, despite her shy nature, lights up when she’s with her family and friends. Like many children her age, she sometimes struggles with following rules, but her heart is in the right place. She always ends up helping her mother with chores like cleaning and doing the dishes when asked. Kira has a deep love for drawing, using her art as a way to express her thoughts and feelings, and she shines in school, especially in math, where her natural curiosity and intelligence truly stand out. What Kira needs most is not just material support, but the steady presence of love, encouragement, and guidance. She longs for stability and the comfort of knowing she is cared for and believed in. With the right support, Kira has the potential to grow into a confident, compassionate young girl who can overcome her challenges and thrive.

Kira is a bright and resilient young girl living in deeply challenging circumstances. Her mother, Anna, is currently unemployed and struggling with alcoholism, which has made it difficult for her to provide consistent care or proper nutrition for Kira and her sister. Despite her efforts, Anna’s addiction has led to instability at home, and her attempts to find work are often unsuccessful due to her condition. Kira’s father is serving in the military, but offers little to no support, leaving the family to navigate these hardships largely on their own. During home visits, we [caseworkers] have found the mother intoxicated, a heartbreaking reality that weighs heavily on the emotional well-being of the children.

Yet, in the midst of this hardship, Kira shines with quiet strength. She and her sister attend church regularly and find comfort and connection in Sunday school, where they are learning about God’s love and building trust in a safe, nurturing space. Their home, however, is in a state of severe disrepair—dark, damp, and neglected for years. The walls are unpainted, the furniture is broken, and the air is heavy with the smell of mold. The toilet is outside, and the kitchen lacks even basic storage, forcing the family to store food on windowsills. Still, Kira’s spirit remains unbroken. She dreams of a better life, one filled with warmth, stability, and love. With the support of HART’s Child Sponsorship Program, Kira could finally receive the care, encouragement, and structure she so desperately needs. Your support could be the turning point in her life, a chance to restore dignity, offer hope, and help a little girl believe in the beauty of her future.
