 Dear Future Sponsor,

My name is Snizhana, and I’m 11 years old. I live in a city with my grandma and my sisters. There are seven of us. My grandma walks with a cane and doesn’t work. I love my sister Solomiia, she’s 10 and in 5th grade. We have fun playing together. My best friend is Yulia from my school, and we like to look for snails.

I celebrate Christmas and my birthday at the same time. In summer, my sisters and I help Grandma and Aunt Yulia. We also walk in the park or stay at home.

I’m finishing 4th grade soon. I take the bus to school and walk home. I spend 7 hours at school. My favorite subject is Ukrainian, and I love talking with friends and playing volleyball. I don’t like it when the boys fight at school. I love sweets, especially on holidays like my birthday. In my free time, I like playing on the swings or watching TV. When I grow up, I want to work in an animal shelter.

Thank you so much for helping my family! I would love to meet you one day and thank you in person. I hope you can visit me during the holidays!

Love,
Snizhana

Caseworker Comments:

Snizhana is a calm and kind 11-year-old girl with a gentle heart. She may struggle with discipline, especially when it comes to homework and household chores, but she always does her best. At home, she helps her grandmother with cleaning and preparing simple meals. Snizhana is a cheerful girl who loves spending time outdoors, rollerblading, and playing sports. Her positive energy is contagious, and she enjoys playing and laughing with her sisters and friends. Despite the challenges she faces, Snizhana’s warm smile and loving nature shine through, making her a truly special girl.

I have known Snizhana’s family for several years. We met through the state social service, which included the children in a program to attend a Christian Camp, where I volunteered. In 2014, the family moved to Korets from the Luhansk region due to the war. The parents struggled with alcohol and lost their parental rights. The grandmother took on the role of caregiver for her granddaughters. Over the last two years, they have moved four times, and the family situation remains very difficult. The challenges they face are likely due to the stress of starting over after relocating. There haven’t been any positive changes recently. The family lives in a poor financial situation, and there are concerns about the children’s self-discipline, time management, and attitude toward their studies.

The girls’ aunt helps support the family, but conflicts between the families are common. The children often don’t do their household chores and lack personal space since the girls and their three cousins share one room. Despite these challenges, the grandmother is loving and takes good care of the girls, though she cannot work due to her health problems and need to care for the children.

The living conditions in the house are very deplorable. The house lacks a proper water supply and bathroom, and hygiene is a significant problem, with dirty furniture, floors, and walls. The family also struggles with piles of dirty dishes. The main reasons for these living conditions include the lack of water, the absence of a bathroom, and limited cleaning due to the house’s condition. The house is old, small, and poorly equipped, with no automated heating or water supply, making it unsafe.

The family urgently needs a larger, safer house with basic amenities, including a water supply and bathroom. They also need basic items like food, clothing, dishes, hygiene products, bedding, and school supplies. The children require medical checkups, and the family would benefit greatly from spiritual and psychological support. The grandmother does her best, but the family’s challenges are overwhelming, and they need help to meet their most basic needs.

Snizhana and her family are in urgent need of your support.
