My name is Veronika, and I am 9 years old. I live in a village with my mom, brothers, grandmother, and grandfather. My mom works at a hospital, and I love spending time with my family, especially my grandma.
I am in the third grade, and my favorite subjects are math and art. I enjoy drawing, riding my bicycle, and playing hide-and-seek with the children in our neighborhood. I am also learning to read and love memorizing poems. One of my favorites is “A Cherry Orchard by the House” by Taras Shevchenko because we have cherry trees near our home.
At home, I have a dog and several cats. Recently, our cat gave birth to six gray kittens, and I love caring for them. During Christmas, I enjoy being home with my family, watching cartoons, and receiving gifts. In the summer, I spend lots of time outdoors walking and playing with friends.
When I grow up, I dream of becoming a kindergarten teacher so I can help and care for young children.

Whether she is drawing, riding her bicycle to the pond, helping her grandmother, or washing dishes at home, Veronika approaches life with enthusiasm and a willing heart. She especially enjoys learning the Ukrainian language and expressing herself through art. Despite facing challenges with speech development, Veronika continues to work hard at school through an individualized learning program. Her determination, positive attitude, and joyful spirit are truly inspiring, and with the right support and encouragement, she has tremendous potential to thrive.
Veronika lives with her mother and two brothers in her grandparents’ home in a rural village. While her father is largely absent from their lives and does not provide financial support, her mother works tirelessly to care for her children and meet their needs. She is employed as an orderly and caregiver at a neurological boarding school, earning only a modest income that is stretched across the needs of three growing children. Veronika’s grandparents, who are pensioners, do everything they can to help, but their resources are also limited.
The family lives in a simple village home that, although still standing, requires ongoing repairs and improvements. Much of the furniture is worn, the rooms are crowded, and the indoor bathroom remains unfinished, forcing the family to use an outdoor toilet year-round. The home is heated by traditional stoves, and while the family keeps chickens, ducks, and an orchard to help provide for themselves, daily life remains challenging.
Yet what stands out most about this family is not their hardship but their perseverance. Veronika’s mother works diligently, the grandparents lovingly support the household, and together they strive to provide a stable and caring environment for the children. Through it all, Veronika remains a happy, loving child who enjoys learning, helping others, and dreaming about her future.
