My name is Myroslava, and I am 5 years old. I live with my twin sister, Mariia, my mother, and my grandmother in a small community near a village. My father is currently serving in the war in the Zaporizhzhia region. Mariia and I are best friends and spend all our time together because there are no other children nearby. We love playing outside, feeding our cat, helping care for our cow, and picking flowers for our grandmother to make into wreaths.
In the summer, we enjoy going to the forest with our mother to gather berries and mushrooms. This year, we hope to start kindergarten, and we are very excited to learn new things. At home, our mother helps us practice drawing, numbers, and letters. When we grow up, my sister and I want to become doctors so we can help people, especially our grandmother, who is often sick.

Myroslava is a cheerful, polite, and kind-hearted five-year-old girl who brings joy to everyone around her. Full of energy and imagination, she loves spending time with her twin sister, Mariia, who is also her very best friend. Together they build sandcastles, explore the outdoors, and create their own little adventures. Myroslava has a creative spirit and a gentle heart. Even at her young age, she enjoys helping her mother by feeding the cats, tidying up her toys, and doing small tasks around the home. This September, she is excited to begin kindergarten alongside her sister and looks forward to learning new things, making friends, and discovering the world around her.
Behind Myroslava’s bright smile is a family facing significant challenges. Her mother, Mariia, is raising the twin girls largely on her own. Although the children’s father is currently serving in the war, he has not been a reliable source of support for the family, leaving the responsibility of caring for the girls primarily on their mother’s shoulders. With limited education and no steady employment opportunities, Mariia devotes her time to caring for her daughters, managing household responsibilities, and maintaining the family’s small homestead. The family’s only regular income comes from government assistance for the children, which is not enough to meet all their growing needs.
Myroslava, her sister, and their mother live in the grandparents’ home, where approximately eight family members share the same small living space. The house has not been repaired for many years and is in deplorable condition. The room where the girls sleep with their mother requires significant improvements, the heating stoves are old and inefficient, and there is no indoor bathroom. The family relies on an outdoor toilet and a well for water. They do not have a working refrigerator, making it difficult to store food safely, and they do not own a washing machine. During the colder months, heating the home with firewood becomes an additional financial burden.
One of the family’s greatest concerns is providing proper nutrition for the girls. With limited resources, meeting daily needs is a constant struggle. While Myroslava and Mariia are healthy children, they both need additional developmental support, including speech therapy, as they have difficulty pronouncing certain sounds and letters. Their mother deeply loves her daughters and wants the very best for them, but the demands of daily survival often leave little time and few resources for these specialized needs.
Despite these hardships, what stands out most about this family is their resilience. During our visits, we have seen a mother who works tirelessly to care for her children and two little girls who continue to laugh, learn, and dream. Myroslava’s sweet spirit, eagerness to help, and excitement about life make her truly special. She is a child with enormous potential who simply needs opportunities and support to flourish.
