Dear sponsor,
My name is Orysia, and I am 1 year and 7 months old. I live in a village. My father is not with us, and we don’t know where he works. My mother doesn’t work right now because she is on maternity leave. I have an older sister named Viktoriia, who is very curious. She goes to kindergarten and often tells me how much fun it is there. When I grow up, I want to go to kindergarten too! Viktoriia loves the tasty food there, especially at mealtime.
My best friend is my mom. She takes such good care of me, and we spend our days playing with rattles and small dolls. When it’s Christmas, we stay inside to keep warm, as it’s too cold for me to play outside just yet.
In the summer, my mom and I enjoy walking around the village and playing in the sand. I don’t go to school yet, but I enjoy milk, borscht, potatoes, and cookies. I often eat porridge with milk, and on holidays, my mom makes something special, like dumplings or cutlets. Right now, I have all the time in the world to play and explore since I’m still so small.
I don’t know yet what I want to be when I grow up, but I know I want to be happy and healthy.
Dear sponsor, thank you so much for your kindness and for caring for children like me. I’m grateful for your support and all the good you do for families like mine. Please pray with us for the end of the war in my country. We wish you health, peace, and happiness.
Love,
Orysia
Caseworker Comments:
Orysia is a beautiful little toddler with sparkling blue eyes that reflect her curious and joyful personality. She is a warm and open-hearted girl, always eager to share what little she has with visitors, offering her kindness generously. Full of energy and wonder, she loves to play with her dolls, creating little worlds of her own. Although she is still very young and doesn’t have responsibilities, her infectious smile and lively nature bring joy to everyone around her. Orysia also has a deep love for milk, which she enjoys with the same delight she brings to everything she does.
Orysia is a bright, joyful child who, despite her happiness, comes from a broken home. Her mother, Khrystyna, is a single mother of three children: two daughters and a son, whom she gave birth to in October. Life has been full of hardship for Khrystyna. The fathers of her children have disappeared, leaving her to care for her family alone. For a time, Khrystyna and her daughters lived in a very old house that she inherited from her grandmother. However, when she became pregnant with her third child, her grandmother offered to move in with her to a warmer, safer house. This decision came at a pivotal time, as the old house soon began to deteriorate and collapse. Sadly, her grandmother passed away shortly after, and Khrystyna found herself alone with three children in a house that is far from ideal.
The living conditions are harsh and difficult. The house lacks a toilet or bathroom, and water is drawn from a well in the yard. In winter, they rely on a wood-burning stove for heat, but there is never enough firewood because Khrystyna cannot afford to buy it. As a result, the house is often cold at night, and the children frequently catch colds. Despite these overwhelming challenges, Khrystyna does her best to provide for her children, ensuring they have what they need to feel loved and cared for. She does everything she can to keep the house as tidy as possible, though it is difficult without basic comforts like a bathroom or a reliable heating system.
The family struggles with the essentials—food, warmth, and the most basic necessities. The lack of a proper heating system means the house stays cold, particularly in the mornings. With no money to buy firewood or food, Khrystyna’s family faces a daily struggle to survive. They desperately need help to get through another harsh winter. The family also lacks hot water, and a bathroom would greatly improve their living conditions. The need for a water supply inside the house is critical, as they must rely on the well outside for water. Khrystyna is determined to make the best of what she has, but the challenges are too great to overcome alone. This family is in urgent need of support to give them the warmth, security, and comfort they deserve. Thank you for choosing to support Orysia and her family.
