My name is Serhii. I am 11 years old and I live in a city. My dad works in construction, and my mom is on maternity leave. I can always count on my sister.
My best friends are Dima and Dymyd. We play games on our phones and play outside together. I am in 5th grade. I go to school by trolleybus or minibus. I like physical education and music the most. I don’t like English very much.
For Christmas, my family cooks together, and we go to the Day Center to hear the Christmas story. In the summer, I spend time with my friends, and my club goes on trips to the Carpathian Mountains.
My favorite food is potatoes with meat, especially mashed potatoes with cutlets. In my free time, I like being outside with my friends. When I grow up, I want to be a police officer.

Serhii is an open‑hearted, friendly, and caring boy who connects easily with others. He loves helping people and is known for his gentle, hardworking nature. He loves playing soccer and other sports. Although he faces challenges with speech and requires additional support at school, he is doing everything he can to grow and succeed. He attends an inclusive class and works regularly with a speech therapist, psychologist, and special education teacher. With consistent support, Serhii has the potential to make remarkable progress.
Despite the difficulties at home, Serhii and his older sister remain active participants at their local day center through their church. He enjoys learning, sports, and being part of a community that encourages him. His determination shines through in everything he does.
Serhii is growing up in a large family of four children. His sister is in the 8th grade, Serhii is in the 6th grade, his younger brother attends kindergarten, and the youngest will turn two this summer. Their mother is on maternity leave and devotes herself fully to caring for the children, especially the toddler. The family’s only income comes from the father’s construction work, which is irregular and often not enough to meet even basic needs.
The situation becomes even more difficult because Serhii’s father struggles with alcohol addiction. During his relapses, the family is left without income, creating severe hardship and leaving the children without essentials. These periods are emotionally painful for the children and place enormous pressure on their mother, who must manage everything alone.
The family lives in a small two‑room apartment that is in deplorable condition. The bathroom and toilet require major repairs, and the rest of the home needs basic updates. With six people sharing such a limited space, daily life is cramped and challenging.
Even with these hardships, the children are polite, hardworking, and supportive of one another. They help with chores, care for their younger siblings, and do their best to stay positive. But the reality is that the family lacks many essentials—food, clothing, school supplies, and opportunities for healthy development.
This is why sponsorship is so important for Serhii.
