Greetings from Ukraine! My name is Zakhar, and I recently turned 2 years old. I live in a beautiful town with my mom and my older brother, Maksym, who is 10 years old. My dad works at a brick factory, and my mom takes care of our family.
My favorite people are my mom, dad, and brother, and I love spending time with them. I also have a dog named Levit, who is always nearby. I enjoy playing ball with my brother and building fun creations with Lego.
Christmas is a special time for our family as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, enjoy traditional meals, and welcome carolers who share the joy of the season. This year, I am excited to start kindergarten, where I hope to make new friends and learn many new things.
My favorite foods are mashed potatoes, rice soup, apples, cucumbers, tomatoes, and strawberries. On holidays, our family enjoys special treats together.

Zakhar is a sweet and lovable two-year-old boy who is preparing to start daycare this fall. He is calm, friendly, and curious, and he quickly makes friends with those around him. Full of energy and wonder, Zakhar loves playing with toys, building creative structures with Lego, and kicking a ball with his older brother, Maksym. More than anything, he enjoys being close to his mother, Nadiia, and spending time with his family. His bright smile, gentle nature, and joyful spirit make him an absolute delight to everyone who meets him.
Behind Zakhar’s cheerful personality is a family facing significant challenges. For the past two years, his mother has been raising Zakhar and his older brother on her own. Although she is legally married to the children’s father, he lives separately in another city, does not provide financial support, and rarely has contact with the children. As a result, the responsibility of caring for and providing for the boys rests almost entirely on Nadiia’s shoulders.
Nadiia is currently on maternity leave and does everything she can to ensure her children are cared for, loved, and safe. Despite her difficult circumstances, she is a devoted mother who maintains a clean and caring home and faithfully fulfills her parental responsibilities. However, the family’s financial situation is extremely difficult. Her only income is a small maternity benefit, which is far from enough to cover essential expenses such as food, clothing, utilities, and household needs.
The family lives in a modest 50-year-old brick house. While the home provides basic shelter, it requires repairs and ongoing maintenance. The water pipes are old and rusted, frequently bursting and requiring temporary fixes because replacement is beyond the family’s means. During the winter months, heating the home becomes especially challenging. Although there are wood and gas stoves, the family often struggles to afford sufficient fuel. The toilet is located outside, and many improvements are needed to make the home safer and more comfortable for the children.
In addition to their financial hardships, Nadiia often struggles with feelings of discouragement and depression as she carries the burden of raising two young children alone. Yet despite these difficulties, she continues to persevere. She works tirelessly to provide stability for her sons and remains committed to giving them a loving home and a hopeful future.
What stood out to us most when meeting this family was not their hardship, but their resilience. Zakhar is growing up surrounded by love from a mother who has not given up despite overwhelming obstacles. He is a happy, healthy little boy with so much potential and so many opportunities ahead of him if given the support to thrive.
