Ukraine – Through The Eyes of a Child
HART’s Art Competition has been a deeply moving and meaningful experience for everyone involved. Most importantly, it offered Ukrainian children—many still carrying the wounds of war—a safe and creative outlet to process their experiences.
Their artwork revealed a powerful mix of emotions: fear, grief, and loss woven together with faith, hope, and dreams. Each reflection offered a deeply personal window into what these children have lived through.
Open to all children in our Child Sponsorship Program, we received over 200 submissions and selected 37 finalists across three age categories.
Then you stepped in. Thank you to everyone who voted! Many of you also shared heartfelt comments about how these pictures moved you. Your engagement encouraged these young artists and helped determine the winners in each age group.
And now…the winners are??? Not just yet! Our Ukraine office has asked us to wait before announcing the winners publicly. All 37 finalists have been invited to a special celebration in Lviv this Saturday, November 15, along with their parents and siblings.
The day will be full of activities designed just for them, culminating in an awards ceremony announcing the winners at the conclusion of the event.
For many, this will be one of the most exciting experiences of their lives. Some have only dreamed of visiting Lviv—often called the “Little Vienna” of Eastern Europe. We look forward to sharing with you some highlights of the celebration and the results in our next E-Blog!
Lastly, we’d like to commend our HART Ukraine team for their outstanding work organizing this competition and celebration. Truly—a job well done!
Stepan, Please enjoy the short video below of a couple of young girls who just received invitations to the ART celebration from their caseworker. The moment they realize they are finalists—and will be traveling to Lviv—is absolutely delightful!

Assessment & Trends of the War Over the Last Two Weeks
SUMMARY: Over the past two weeks, Russia has intensified large-scale attacks on Ukraine’s energy grid, crippling power networks and targeting civilian infrastructure ahead of winter. Ukraine has retaliated with long-range drone strikes deep inside Russia, disrupting oil refineries and logistics hubs, while Russia’s battlefield advances have slowed to small, incremental gains.
The war’s focus has shifted to economic and infrastructure warfare. Both sides are waging an attritional struggle—Russia to break Ukraine’s resilience, Ukraine to exhaust Russia’s war economy. Western allies are deepening support through military aid and plans to use frozen Russian assets, even as Moscow rejects peace proposals and demands recognition of its territorial claims.
The outlook remains grim and prolonged. Ukraine’s survival hinges on maintaining Western unity and energy resilience through winter, while Russia faces mounting economic strain and internal fatigue. With neither side ready to compromise, the war is set to continue into 2026 as a grinding test of endurance and will.
Ukraine Winter Response Plan
Russia’s new energy assault is pushing Ukrainians into another winter of blackouts. We are already getting requests from our partner churches for ‘winterization’ assistance. (generators, power banks, wood, fuel, warm clothing, etc.)
Essentially, this means we’re helping people through our partner churches, to prepare, to survive, and function during the winter season amidst war-related disruption and damage.

Pray Together with Your Church, Family, and Friends for:
- A just and lasting peace — that light would overcome darkness.
- Defenders, veterans, prisoners, and their families — for strength, protection, and hope.
- Christians and non-believers in occupied territories — for endurance under persecution.
- The safe return of kidnapped children & healing for broken families.
- Comfort for the grieving & restoration for the wounded.
- Protection of cities, villages, and civilians from relentless attacks.
- Global perseverance in standing with Ukraine during this long struggle.
- Wisdom and courage for world leaders as they confront tyranny.
