Ukraine at War – Update 16, 2025

Without a doubt, new life stories will begin to unfold—thanks to everyone who participated, whether online or in person, at HART’s June 2025 Summer Camp & Relief Aid Fundraiser last weekend.

The results are in—thanks to YOUR incredible support, we reached our goal! This summer, over 6,000 children and youth across Ukraine will have the opportunity to attend life-changing camps!

One of the most powerful aspects of HART’s mission model is how it empowers North Americans to create real, lasting impact in this part of the world. By supporting programs like summer camps, donors have a unique opportunity to directly touch the lives of children and their families—helping to shape brighter, hope-filled futures.

FUNDRAISER EVENT HIGHLIGHTS:

The evening featured inspiring performances by Ukrainian musicians, a talented youth Bandura orchestra (pictured above), and a beautiful choir.

Guests enjoyed a lively and spirited auction, followed by a presentation from HART President Lloyd Cenaiko, which included a Q&A with our distinguished guest from Ukraine—Pastor Andriy Korniychuk, one of the most dynamic young leaders in the Ukrainian Baptist Union. A gifted preacher, teacher, visionary, and church planter, Pastor Andriy has been a valued HART partner for over fifteen years.

He invited us to walk alongside him as he recounted his experiences over the past three years of war. He spoke movingly of the heartbreak he witnessed regularly at morgues—helping a wife identify her deceased husband, or a mother her fallen son.

He painted a vivid picture of life just five kilometers from the front lines, where he served as a chaplain with a medical team dedicated to saving the lives of wounded soldiers freshly evacuated from the battlefield.

Yet in the midst of the sorrow, he also shared a message of encouragement and joy, highlighting how God continues to work powerfully through this war—seen in the remarkable number of people who have turned to Christ in repentance and faith over the past three years.

He spoke passionately about the local church’s commitment to being the hands and feet of Christ, and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the HART community for partnering with them—often providing financial support at just the right moments, as tangible answers to prayer.

In our upcoming E-Blogs, we’ll be sharing links to photos and short videos from the Fundraiser Evening—giving you a closer look at the highlights and moments that made this night so special.

Your support for the Ukraine Crisis Fund enables us to channel vital resources to our network of Ukrainian churches, like Andriy’s, empowering them to make a real difference in their communities.

Remember, you’re not giving to HART—you’re giving through HART to impact lives across Ukraine!

MATCHING GIFT – AUCTION RESULTS – TREASURE CHEST WINNER

We are deeply grateful to everyone in the HART community for every prayer and every gift in support of this Fundraiser. A special thank-you to those who attended and helped raise $47,000 through the live auction—including one unforgettable pie that sold for $5,300!

Congratulations to James & Dianne—the winners of the Treasure Chest Prize! A familiar and beloved couple at all our past auctions, it was a joy to see them win!

And finally, we extend our heartfelt thanks to a faithful young couple from the USA—longtime supporters of HART—whose generous offer to match donations played a key role in the success of this fundraiser. Because of their servant-hearted generosity, thousands of children will experience the joy and hope of a summer camp this year. Without a doubt, they are storing up treasures in heaven.“Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16

This is a must-watch for everyone in our HART community. Thanks to your support, HART is reaching tens of thousands of people—through the compassionate hands and hearts of an effective network of local churches throughout the country.

During this war, your support and prayers brought light where there was darkness, hope where there was despair, and Jesus, where there was only fear. Thank you for co-laboring with us to… change the world – one heart at a time!

VIDEO: Exposing the Truth – Bucha and Irpin Are Not Propaganda

Hope in the Midst of Trauma

Last summer, my wife Ulyana and I visited Irpin—what some might label a “propaganda” tour. But we have friends who live there, and having witnessed the reality firsthand, I can say without hesitation: the video above tells the truth.

Alongside the devastation of cities like Bucha and Irpin—where homes, schools, churches, and entire neighborhoods were reduced to rubble—came something even more horrific: the personal tragedies. These were not just broken buildings, but broken lives. Innocent civilians were mercilessly gunned down in the streets or murdered in their homes. Families were torn apart.

And behind many doors, even darker horrors unfolded. Women and girls, some very young, were victims of sexual violence at the hands of invading soldiers. These acts were not isolated incidents—they were part of a pattern of cruelty meant to terrorize and humiliate.

Survivors have been left not only with deep psychological wounds, but in many cases, with children born of rape—adding layers of complexity and pain to an already unbearable burden.

But God is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18)—and through your support, HART and our church partners are offering trauma care, safe spaces, and dignity to survivors in communities across Ukraine.

Together, we are bringing hope and healing where others brought harm. Thank you for standing with us in compassion and justice.

Here are specific prayer points that can help guide our prayers for the situation in Ukraine. Please share these with your friends and family.
