Ukraine at War – Update 17, 2025

There’s a powerful idea that Erwin McManus shares in his book, Stand Against the Wind – one that speaks directly to the hearts of people like you, who give so generously to HART’s mission.

He writes about the Generative Spirit – the kind of life that doesn’t just consume or preserve, but one that gives, multiplies, and creates goodness in the lives of others. A generous spirit doesn’t ask, “What’s in it for me?” but instead, “What can I do to bring life, healing, and hope to someone else?”

This spirit is at the very core of what makes our work at HART possible. It’s what fuels the building of bunk beds for families in deep poverty… the delivery of mobile homes to war-traumatized families… the opportunity for thousands of children to attend life-changing summer camps… and the support provided through our Child Sponsor Program, which offers food and care to families like the one pictured above.

McManus reminds us that the most powerful lives are lived for something greater than themselves. That perfectly describes our HART community. You are giving generously – planting seeds in soil you may never walk upon, but trusting that God will bring the harvest of hope and lasting change.

So let me encourage you – never underestimate the ripple effect of your generosity. Together, every day in Ukraine, we’re doing more than providing homes or sending children to camp – we’re rebuilding lives and restoring hearts. With every act of love, we reflect the compassion of Christ – one life, one heart at a time.

This documentary highlights Russia’s targeted persecution of Christians in Ukraine. Christian faith threatens Russian President Vladimir Putin because it stands outside his control. As a result, his war on Ukraine has centered on the systematic persecution of Christians, their families, and their churches.

Brushstrokes of Strength: Iryna’s story

Iryna, a devoted mother of four, is a remarkably strong and talented woman. Despite facing incredibly challenging circumstances – living in a tiny home with no indoor plumbing or running water, and caring for children who are frequently ill and in need of medication – her love for her family never wavers.

By God’s grace, her daughter was enrolled in HART’s Child Sponsor Program, bringing much-needed support. And recently, we had the joy of helping Iryna sell two of her paintings at our June Fundraising Event, providing her with additional income to help care for her family. READ MORE

Baptism Amidst Bombs

In a village near the front lines, a powerful and surreal moment unfolds: a man is baptized while the sound of explosions echo in the background – bombs falling as new life rises from the water.

Caolan Robertson Reports

Airports are in chaos, oligarchs have been arrested, and a former governor was found dead — all in just 48 hours. I’ll discuss the implications and what this means for Russian society.

NOTE: Caolan is a young yet seasoned journalist who travels extensively across Ukraine, delivering timely, on-the-ground reporting and insightful analysis of the unfolding situation. He has an exceptionally good grasp of the war in Ukraine.

Let’s begin here. Just as the world once united to stop Nazi Germany, today we face another clear moral crossroads. The war between Russia and Ukraine is not a gray-zone conflict. It is a battle between freedom and oppression, between democracy and dictatorship, between good and evil.

Since February 2022, Russia has waged an unprovoked, full-scale invasion of Ukraine – bombing civilian neighborhoods, destroying power grids, targeting hospitals and schools.

These are not accidental casualties of war. These are deliberate acts of terror. The international community has spoken loudly. The United Nations, the International Criminal Court, and countless human rights organizations have labeled Russia’s actions as war crimes and crimes against humanity. And yet, disinformation continues to cloud the truth.

Right-wing extremists and Kremlin propaganda are fueling lies—that Ukraine provoked the war, that NATO forced Putin’s hand, that President Zelensky is corrupt or just another warmonger. Don’t be fooled. These narratives are designed to divide and distract.

Ukraine didn’t start this war. They are defending their right to exist, to be free, and to live in peace. President Zelensky has shown extraordinary courage—leading a war-torn nation with clarity, humility, and strength.

If you believe in democracy, the choice is clear. Aggression wrapped in polite language is still aggression. Cowardice cloaked in neutrality is still betrayal.

Ukraine does not need analysis from afar. It needs clarity. It needs courage. It needs allies who understand that this is not just about borders, it is about the survival of a nation and the future of democracy itself.

History will remember those who stood against the tide. So let it remember Ukraine – for the right reasons. Not because the world pitied it, but because the world refused to look away.

Give – Support trusted organizations like HART that are bringing food, shelter, trauma care, and hope to Ukrainians on the front lines and throughout the country.

Seek the Truth – Don’t fall for misinformation. Read trusted sources. Question propaganda. Be a voice for truth in your circles.

Pray – For peace. For justice. For strength for the defenders and comfort for the brokenhearted.

Stand with Ukraine – Speak up. Share their stories. Let the world know whose side you’re on.

Even in the darkness of war, light shines through those who choose courage, compassion, and clarity. Let’s be those people. Together, we can make a difference.

Here are specific prayer points that can help guide our prayers for the situation in Ukraine. Please share these with your friends and family.
