Ukraine’s first ever, National Prayer Breakfast

On June 29, Ukraine’s first National Prayer Breakfast was held in Kyiv, under the auspices of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
It was attended by believers of different denominations, pastors, priests, chaplains, military personnel, members of parliament, officials, and 836 people from 15 countries and representatives of twelve confessions attended the meeting.
In his address to the attendees, former Vice-President Mike Pence said, “Across borders, continents, and languages, we have come together to ask God to bring peace, justice, and victory to the people of Ukraine.”
Meanwhile, the Kremlin is openly using religion to further the Russian war effort. The Russian Orthodox Church routinely portrays the invasion of Ukraine in religious terms and promotes the war as a sacred mission. Throughout Russian-occupied Ukraine, all Christian denominations are prevented from operating, with pastors and priests at risk of being detained, tortured, or killed.
In stark contrast, the Ukrainian National Prayer Breakfast in Kyiv highlighted the Ukrainian government’s commitment to values of religious tolerance and diversity. This is the pluralistic Ukraine that millions of Ukrainians are now struggling to defend. They deserve the support of everyone who values freedom of religion.
One of HART’s partner pastors put it this way: “An event such as this one clearly shows the importance of turning to God in times of sorrow and suffering. The Ukrainian people put their hope not only in arms and diplomacy but first and foremost in the Lord our God. This prayer breakfast demonstrates how the name of Christ is being spread even more in this time of need because of the war.”

HOW YOUR SUPPORT IS MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Trauma Healing Conference video
Psychological/emotional trauma is one of the most common consequences of the war in Ukraine. Ukrainian refugees and displaced persons, including many children, have witnessed the horrors of war and are under intense emotional stress.
And yet trauma is also felt by families away from the front line communities as they experience the trauma of loved ones being sent to the war and many not returning.
It is hard to imagine the challenges that are facing churches in Ukraine today. In a small but important initiative, HART has begun a series of Trauma Healing conferences. Our focus is on developing a practical and holistic approach to trauma healing for two key groups:
1. Pastors and chaplains – who are dealing with trauma issues within their congregations, and because many pastors also serve as chaplains, they require specialized training to address the unique challenges faced by soldiers and their families.
2. Child Sponsor caseworkers – who encounter a variety of trauma issues affecting children and families who’ve been impacted by the war.
The video above showcases our first Pastors Trauma Healing Conference, which took place a couple of weeks ago. In an upcoming blog video we will show you the Trauma Healing conference for Child Sponsor Project caseworkers.
Please keep this important initiative in your prayers and support if you feel led.

WHY SPONSOR A CHILD?
Changed lives – change lives!
Tetiana faced tremendous hardships after her alcoholic husband abandoned her and their three sons. Struggling to support her family, she resorted to working as a street sweeper, often bringing her youngest son in a stroller to work with her.
Read about how the Child Sponsorship program brought about a transformative change in her circumstances. Now, out of gratitude for the assistance she received, Tetiana serves as a caseworker in HART’s Senior Care project, dedicating herself to helping others in need.

THANK YOU HART COMMUNITY!
